The Problem

Single-cell organisms such as Cyanobacteria are the cause of most freshwater algal blooms. Algae is a steadily increasing problem worldwide that is significantly affecting habitats and drinking water supplies. The blooms use up oxygen and release harmful toxins that can kill humans, animals and fish. The most prevalent form found in ponds, rivers, and lakes is blue-green algae. With temperatures rising and water supplies shrinking, algae control has become critical for the maintenance of human and agricultural water supplies.
Harmful algal blooms are taking over as the world warms and grows richer in carbon dioxide.
The Target
Pavati (Native American word meaning “Clean Water’) is a new and effective organic Cyanobacteria (Harmful Algal Bloom) treatment with proven control and minimal toxin release. The result is a zero environmental impact to fisheries, recreational areas, and drinking water sources while minimizing harmful effects on non-targeted organisms.
Cyanobacteria blooms and their toxin production pose a growing threat to aquatic ecosystems, public health, including food safety, and aquaculture sources worldwide. These blooms have markedly increased over the past few decades and have been projected to continue rising due to the combined impacts of elevated CO2 levels and global warming. Chemical algaecides such as copper sulfate have been a treatment strategy for bloom control. However, their efficacy varies based on many variables such as temperature, species, application rate, dilution rate and are toxic to soil biology, impairing plant growth, and are very toxic to aquatic life and have long-lasting negative impact on the aquatic environment.
